Prince Judah Ben-Hur (Charlton Heston, "The Big Country") of Judea is betrayed and sentenced to the galleys as a slave by his childhood friend Messala (Stephen Boyd). Revenge and the desire to rescue his imprisoned mother and sister (Martha Scott and Cathy O'Donnell) keep him alive. Once back in Judea, Judah meets Esther (Haya Harareet), the slave girl he once loved but whom he gave her freedom as a wedding present as she prepared for her arranged marriage. ♥
